Dodge Cummins Common Rail Fuel System
The Dodge Cummins 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine 2003 & newer use a common rail fuel system consisting of a high pressure pump (top picture) that supplies the fuel to the fuel injectors under very high pressure. Pressure up to 30,000 psi. Location of the high pressure pump is on the front cover of the engine in the same location that the previous engines injection pumps were located. It is driven the same way by gear that in turn is driven by the camshaft. The pressure is controller by a fuel pressure regulator which receives a voltage signal depending on throttle position. The injector (lower picture) is controller electronically & is located under the engine valve cover. The engine has one injector per cylinder
